Hyperbaric Oxygen Treamtent
The most effective treatment for non-healing wounds.
The Springfield Regional Wound Care Center features state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT). HOBT is an adjunctive treatment in which the patient breathes 100% oxygen while enclosed in a pressurized chamber of greater-than-normal atmospheric pressure.
While breathing pure oxygen, the patient's blood plasma becomes saturated, carrying 15 to 20 times the normal amount of oxygen to the body's tissues. The ultimate result is that the body's natural wound-healing mechanisms, which are oxygen dependent, are able to function more efficiently.
The Springfield Regional Wound Care Center is equipped with two hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Treatments typically last up to two hours. There is a two-way communication system built into the chamber so the patient, nurse, technician or physician stay in constant contact. Patients also can choose to watch television during the course of treatment.
